Equity Releases New DOT Policy

Equity is pleased to announce the launch of a revised Dance • Opera • Theatre (DOT) Engagement Policy, the new terms coming into effect August 4, 2025.

After a thorough review process, a number of amendments have been made to significantly improve working conditions for members under the DOT, including: The DOT Engagement Policy includes minimum fees and other provisions for non-standard, small-scale engagements in dance, opera, and theatre, in addition to Equity members working at educational institutions.

  • New language about the Engager's responsibility for safe workspaces, and a requirement for the first day statement to be read again once the production moves to the venue/theatre
  • New language regarding the provision of a detailed schedule for each week
  • New provisions for the engagement of Directors and Choreographers
  • Additions to the provisions for Stage Fighting and Onstage Intimacy
  • Clarification on minimum compensation for Artists providing services as Dance Captain, Fight Captain and/or Intimacy Captain
  • Clarification that an Engager may not audition solely by video submission
  • Added language addressing air quality
  • Expanded language in the requirements for dressing rooms
  • Clarification about payment process for Artists working at educational institutions
  • Added language addressing an Engager's option to extend
  • New provisions for Artists who drive on tour
  • Additional rehearsal time after opening for shows on tour and in Rep
  • Additional extended days in tech week for shows in Rep

Increases to fees under the DOT were previously announced and have been in effect since January 6, 2025.
